Nigeria At 65: Chairman Of Adonis Organization, Ademiju Says Poverty, Insecurity Overshadow Celebration
Chairman of Adonis Organization and founder of Adonis American College of Science and Technology Esa Oke , Osun State, James O. Ademiju, has said Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary offers little to celebrate as worsening poverty, insecurity, and poor governance continue to weigh heavily on citizens.
Ademiju, in his Independence Day message, noted that more than 129 million Nigerians are living below the poverty line, with many families struggling under rising costs of food, fuel, and electricity.
He lamented that insecurity across different regions, coupled with frequent power outages and poor infrastructure, has left Nigerians battling for survival rather than joining in national celebration.
“The reality is that insecurity and hunger have become daily battles for ordinary Nigerians,” Ademiju said. “This anniversary should inspire us to demand better governance, transparency, and policies that truly prioritize the welfare of the people.”
He added that true independence would only be achieved when government policies guarantee food security, create jobs, and ensure peace and stability.
Ademiju, urged Nigerians to use the occasion to reflect and engage more actively in the country’s democratic process through informed voting, peaceful advocacy, and community initiatives.
Despite the challenges, he expressed optimism that Nigeria can still chart a path to peace, prosperity, and dignity if citizens and leaders embrace collective responsibility.
