Fresh Attack In Eruku As Bandits Abduct Farmer

Bandits have struck again in Eruku, Kwara State, barely a week after 38 members of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Oke-Isegun, Eruku, were freed, this time abducting a 40-year-old farmer, Annas Aasanru.

The latest incident occurred on Sunday, raising fresh fears in a community still traumatised by repeated attacks.

The church members had been held for five days, during which three people were killed, before being released.

They are currently receiving medical care at a hospital in Ilorin’s GRA, provided by the Kwara State Government.

Confirming the abduction, Kwara State Police Command spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi said operatives received a distress call around 2:00 p.m., reporting that four armed men invaded a farmland along Koro Road in Eruku around 12:30 p.m. and took Aasanru away.

“Upon receipt of the report, a joint team of police, military personnel and local vigilantes was immediately deployed to the area for an intensive search and rescue operation,” Ejire-Adeyemi stated.

A community leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the attackers, suspected to be Fulani/Bororo men, stormed the farm armed with cutlasses and AK-47 rifles before abducting Aasanru and fleeing into the bush.

Sunday’s attack is the second major incident in Eruku within a month, intensifying fears over the worsening security situation in the area.
