Innovation Key To Universities Development- Don

The former Vice Chancellor, Olabisi Obasanjo University, Ogun State, Prof. Ganiyu Alatunji Olatunde has identified innovation as one of the driving forces for universities’ development.

Prof. Olatunde made this statement while delivering a lecture at the ‘3rd Registry Annual Lecture’ organized by the Osun State University.

Speaking on the topic “Current Trends in Synergising The Roles of Different Stakeholders in Enhancing University Development”, Prof Olatunde said for a university to attain its academic potential, all stakeholders in the university must fulfill their respective obligations, through collaborative efforts.

“The success of these collaborations relies on effective communication, shared goals , and the commitment of all parties involved, he said.

According to the university Don, the development of universities is increasingly driven by the need for innovation, economic growth, and social influence.

He said universities fulfill a variety of purposes, which he said includes, but not limited, to education, research, public service, cultural preservation and promotion, economic development, personal development, social mobility among others.

He said stakeholders in the University system consist of students, faculty and staff, university administration, alumni, parents and families, governing boards , government organizations, industry partners, community members, donors and Philanthropists , accrediting agencies and non profit organizations.

He further explained that those stakeholders have a stake in the efficiency, standing and administration of the higher education system.

“Within a university system, stakeholders play crucial roles in facilitating the expansion and achievement of the institution.” he said

Speaking on obstacles and prospects for the future, he identified sustainability, equity and inclusion, policy and regulation and global completion among others as factors to take into cognizance.

In his address, Prof Odunayo Clement Adebooye, the Vice Chancellor of Osun State University, harped on the need for stakeholders in the university system to diligently discharge their roles.

Prof. Adebooye charged stakeholders in the university system to fulfill their obligations and contribute to the development of their respective universities.

He said the success of their universities is based on their attitude and continued contribution to the development of the individual universities.
