VIDEO: Clearing Of Farms By Herders A Deliberate Destruction – Gov Namadi
The governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi, says herders who destroy farms belonging to farmers could be doing it to exact revenge for losing their grazing reserves.
The governor said this while commenting on insecurity in the North-West on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on Friday.
“Deliberate like in form of revenge. The herders felt their cattle route have been taken over, their grazing reserve has been taken over. So because of that they felt this is an injustice and they need to take a revenge,” Governor Namadi said.
He said that for the fear of being killed, the farmers decided to stay away from their farms and resorted to using all the money they have to purchase what they eat.
The governor, however, said that they elected to solve the issue as soon as they came into office one year ago, adding that their peace move is working so far.
