House Of Reps Confirms Oluyede As Chief Of Army Staff
In a significant development, the House of Representatives has approved President Bola Tinubu’s request to confirm Lt. Gen. Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the substantive Chief of Army Staff.
This decision was made on Thursday, November 28.
Oluyede’s appointment as acting Chief of Army Staff came after the illness and subsequent death of Lt. Gen. Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.
President Tinubu’s letter requesting confirmation was read on the floor of the House on Tuesday, November 26.
An ad-hoc committee, headed by Babajimi Benson, Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, was constituted on Wednesday to screen Oluyede.
The committee’s report, presented on Thursday morning, recommended Oluyede’s confirmation, citing his exceptional leadership, professionalism, and commitment to national security.
In his letter to the House, President Tinubu highlighted Oluyede’s qualifications, experience, and contributions to the Nigerian Army and the nation at large.
The President expressed confidence that Oluyede would lead the Nigerian Army effectively, ensuring the security and stability of the nation.
The House unanimously adopted the committee’s recommendation, confirming Oluyede as the Chief of Army Staff. This approval is seen as a significant step towards ensuring the continued stability and security of Nigeria.
Oluyede’s confirmation has been widely welcomed by stakeholders, who have expressed confidence in his ability to lead the Nigerian Army.
