Women Affairs Minister Condemns Lady Exploiting Mentally Unstable Woman For Content

The Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has condemned a viral video showing a young woman exploiting her mentally unstable mother for personal gain.

The video, which sparked widespread outrage online, featured a young content creator engaging with her visibly unwell and unkempt mother.

In the video, the young woman introduced her mentally ill mother, explaining that her mother’s condition deteriorated after her father’s death.

She added that while her mother used to care for her and her siblings, her mental state worsened, and she began living on the streets.

Despite the circumstances, the young woman said she occasionally visits her mother, bringing food and money.

Reacting to the video on her X page on Monday, Kennedy-Ohanenye described the footage as disturbing, unacceptable, and potentially harmful.

She mentioned that the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs condemned the exploitation of vulnerable individuals, especially those battling mental health issues.

The minister called for empathy and compassion, stating, “Mental illness demands compassion, understanding, and support not ridicule or exploitation.”

The ministry has, however, requested information on the mother’s identity and condition, offering a reward for assistance in locating her to ensure she receives proper care and protection.

She also urged the public to respect the dignity of individuals with mental health issues and to report similar instances immediately.

She concluded, “Let’s work together to prevent exploitation and support those who need it most.”
