The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has appealed to protesters to shelve the proposed protest and redirect their energy to seek capital punishment for corrupt officials.

Oba Akanbi asked President Tinubu to address Nigerians and assure the youth of his commitment to checkmate corruption to the bearest minimum by effecting capital punishment.

He attributed Nigeria’s challenges to corruption by some of the officials of previous governments and asked protesters to demand enactment and enforcement of strict punishment for corrupt individuals.

He affirmed democracy presents freedom to protest but not in a tense environment where hoodlums have been positioned by political cabals to score a point.

He advised the youth to have an independent mind and reject any attempt to be used and dumped by the enemies of Nigeria.

A statement released by Oluwo and made available to the press through his press secretary, Alli Ibraheem, reads “Reasonable numbers of youth who we call the leaders of tomorrow have no international passport.

The majority of you have no second home. Many have no family overseas they can run to. Don’t be a tool in the hands of Nigeria’s enemies. This is the reason why we must do everything to defend Nigeria”

“As a Royal Father to the nation, I believe so much in Nigeria. I know Nigeria will be great again. I left the comfort of Canada to contribute my own quarters to the greatness of Nigeria. It’s a huge sacrifice leaving Canada to become an Oba in Nigeria. I did so because I trust in the greatness of this nation. Since enthronement, I’ve made a significant difference checkmating traditional corruption ”

“I also believe in the ability of the emerging youth. Let’s be patriotic and civil in our approach to demand for better performance from public officials. Nigeria is currently under construction, don’t destroy it”

“The bane of Nigeria is corruption perpetrated by past officials. Most developed nation enforce capital punishment for corrupt officials. Youth should demand strict punishment for anyone culpable of corruption. Let two or three public officials be hanged publicly for corruption. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should address and assure Nigerians of his readiness to checkmate corruption. The assurance and workability of enforcing such will make Nigeria a sane nation. I can participate in such protest in a peaceful way”

“Let’s support our leaders with prayers- from the president to the Governors, senators, House of representatives members, local government chairmen etc.”
