Muslim Group seek IGP , PSC, Intervention Over Alleged Police Brutality Of Innocent Civilians
The Muslim Initiative on Rights and Justice ( MIRAJ) , a human right group , has called on the Inspector -General of Police , Olukayode Egbedokun , and the Police service commission to intervene and also reinvestigate the alleged unlawful tortured and arrest of an innocent civilian , Mr Abubakar Saheed .
Saheed was alleged to have been denied fundamental rights and fair hearing over a fictitious allegations involving a business transactions of cows between him and one Jolayemi Sodiq ( Complainant ) which had led to intimidation, illegal seizure of his properties and threat to life being melted on him.
The Group National Amir , Mr Adeniyi Adams , who made this known in an interview with newsmen on Thursday in Osogbo , said the need for the police IGP to intervene becomes paramount for Justice to take it course .
Allnews correspondent gathered that the defendant was arrested on May 10 , 2024 by the Divisional Police Station in Oro , Kwara state, headed by one officer Abdulmunin Isah .
Adams said the manner at which the case was handled without due processes called for questioning after the defendant was denied access to his fundamental rights without any police statement or interrogation when he was arrested .
He said that the victim was taken to the Commissioner of Police (CP) special divisional squad in Kwara state where he further met severe torture , abuse with inhuman displayed leading to the deterioration of his health.
” We hereby make an urgent call to the chairman police service commission, {PSC},the Inspector General of Police {IGP}, and the Minister, Ministry of Police Affairs, with other concerns authority for immediate outright dismissal of those involved .
” Also, urgent intervention to reinvestigate and redress to save the live of Abubakri saheed from torture, abuse of power, injustice, conspiracy, foul play, disobedience becomes paramount”.
Adams, however , said a stitch in time saves and Justice delayed is a justice denied, calling for a quick actions by the police authority to reinvestigate and unravel the truth to ensure that innocent civilians are not victims of injustice in the hands of those who are meant to be “Friend of the Masses ”
