AWDROP Seeks Government Collaboration Ahead of Elections
-As Aspirant Advocates Policies To Support Water Infrastructure, Funding
As Nigeria grapples with persistent water shortages, the Association of Water Well Drilling Rig Owners and Practitioners (AWDROP) is urging the government to enhance its support in addressing the nation’s water challenges.
AWDROP is essential in providing clean underground water, particularly in underserved rural communities, yet it faces significant hurdles, including high operational costs, limited drilling equipment, and insufficient government contracts and funding.
As the association prepares for its national election this Thursday, October 24, 2024 in Abuja, the federal capital territory, Ayo Akinyemi, a candidate for the position of Secretary General of AWDROP and a seasoned industry professional with 18 years of experience is spearheading the call for stronger collaboration between the government and the association.
He advocated policies focused on bolstering water infrastructure, improving access to funding, and incorporating modern technology.
If elected, according to him, he is committed to pursuing reforms that will enhance AWDROP’s capabilities and broaden its impact throughout Nigeria.
He urged all AWDROP members to support him in the upcoming elections, as his vision aligns with the urgent need for resources and partnerships to effectively tackle the nation’s water crisis.
“Increased government backing is crucial for AWDROP’s mission to ensure access to clean water for all Nigerians,” he stressed.
Akinyemi emphasized the importance of a robust partnership between AWDROP and government agencies at all levels—federal, state, and local.
“Water is life, and without adequate government support, the efforts of private practitioners like AWDROP will continue to fall short
“We need policies that support water infrastructure development, as well as financial assistance for well drilling and maintenance, especially in underserved communities.” Akinyemi stated.
