Osun Police Arrest Commercial Motorcyclist Over Alleged Rape, Robbery

The Osun State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Damilare Jacob, for alleged rape and armed robbery.

Jacob, a commercial motorcyclist, is accused of attacking a student from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, on Friday, July 26, 2024.

Command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, disclosed this during a parade of suspects at the state police headquarters on Wednesday.

The student, whose name has not been released, reportedly hired Jacob around 7:05 p.m. to transport her from Ile-Ife to Moro town.

Instead of completing the journey, Jacob allegedly diverted into a nearby bush where he robbed the student of her belongings.

He then allegedly raped her, cut hairs from her pubic area, armpits, and head, and threatened to kill her if she reported the assault.

The police are continuing their investigation, and Jacob is expected to face charges in court.

“On the 26th July, 2024 at about 7:05pm, the complainant engaged the service of a commercial motorcyclist (suspect) later known as Damilare Jacob ‘m’ from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Campus, Ile-Ife to Moro town but on getting to RCC junction along Ilesa/Ibadan Expressway, Ile-Ife, the suspect diverted into a nearby bush and he robbed her of the following items; (1) iPhone XS Max valued three hundred and twenty thousand naira (N320,000.00k), (2) One Samsung Galaxy A71 valued one hundred and fifty thousand naira (N150,000.00k), (3) Airtel Wi-Fi valued ten thousand naira (N10,000.00k) with the cash sum of twenty thousand naira (N20,000.00k) and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her without her consent.

“The suspect also cut her pubic hair, armpit hair, head hair and threatened to kill her if she dares to report the ugly incident to anyone.

“The victim was taken to Police hospital, Osogbo for assessment and treatment.

“The suspect was later arrested and he confessed perpetrating this dastardly act,” the statement said.

Opalola disclosed that the suspect will be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation.

However, another suspect, Paul was arrested for alleged theft of commercial mini bus popularly known as Korope.

Paul was said to have been arrested at Dagbolu , along Ikirun by the operatives of Police command over the allegation.

Explaining how he was arrested, the suspect said he followed his friend, one Chinedu grom Lagos to Osogbo to sell the bus, not knowing it was a stole vehicle.

Paul further narrated that Chinedu came to seek his assistance after he claimed that the Task Force arrested him.

“He approached me for assistance. He begged that I should help him to dispose the vehicle because I know a lot of the people in Osogbo. He later told me that he doesn’t have the particulars of the vehicle, hence , he should dismantle the vehicle and sell it in scrap

“After dismantling the vehicle. I accompanied him to where we sold some parts of the bus. Police arrived the scene and got me arrested”, he explained
