Protest In Nigeria: Long Overdue - Fadojoe

Former Presidential Aspirant Faduri Oluwadare Joseph has written an open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to take action following the devastating flood disaster in Borno State, Northern Nigeria.
The disaster, which has left over 122,751 people affected and 30 dead, is a stark reminder of the country’s lack of accountability and ineffective governance.
“As a nation, we have been taking one step forward but 10 steps backward,” Joseph said. “Our country runs on a system that lacks law and order, rewards, and punishment. This has led to a situation where many people are getting away with evil deeds daily, and no one is held accountable.”
Joseph pointed out that high-profile individuals, such as former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello and ex-minister Beta Edu, have evaded punishment for their alleged wrongdoing. “There are many anomalies in our nation and no consequences,” he emphasized.
The Borno flood disaster, caused by the collapse of the Alau Dam, has displaced over 400,000 people and affected more than one million. The situation is dire, with tens of thousands of children crammed into displacement camps, lacking clean water, sanitation, and healthcare.
Joseph called on President Tinubu to treat the disaster as a wake-up call, ensuring that those responsible for the tragedy face justice. “Our leaders must do better than we have been doing since the 1960 independence. Nigeria must work, Nigerians can work, and I still believe it.”
The humanitarian crisis in Borno State is compounded by the ongoing insurgency and climate change, which has led to creeping desertification and increased flood risk. As the country struggles to respond to the disaster, Joseph’s letter serves as a poignant reminder of the need for effective governance and accountability.
