UK Returnee Among Casualties In Ibadan Explosion
A man who recently returned from the United Kingdom (UK) has been named as one of the victims of Tuesday’s explosion in Ibadan, Oyo State’s capital.
A video circulating on social media showed an eyewitness, Ayode Jajaye, saying the UK returnee, who is the son of one of the landlords in the estate where the explosion occurred on Tuesday night, was among those who died in the incident.
Jajaye said: “Look at the guy that just died, he just came from the UK about a week ago. He’s a son to a landlord in this estate.
“My conclusion is that the government should investigate this situation. The casualties are too much; look at damages, we can’t just look away. There are so many collateral damages that have happened.”
Recalls that residents in various parts of Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State, were terrified on Tuesday night as a deafening sound, which appeared to be a massive explosion shook most parts of the city.
The number of casualties could not be confirmed as of press time.
Major places in Ibadan metropolis and the outskirts of the city felt the ground shaking some minutes before 8 pm.
According to information gathered by Vanguard, the heavy sound shook the School of Nursing hostel of the University College Hospital and shattered all the windows.
Some residents of Ologuneru, Owalla, Isokan, Ekerin, Eleyele and parts of Apete also said they felt the shaking.
