Nigerian Army Arrests Five Gunrunners, Seizes Fire Arms In Plateau
In a major crackdown, troops of Operation Safe Haven, part of the Nigerian Army’s 3 Division, has arrested five notorious gunrunners in an overnight operation in Plateau State.
This was disclosed in a tweet on the operatives official X handle on Tuesday.
The raid, targeting a known gunrunner, Mohammed Sani, in Naraguta Mining Area of Jos North LGA, led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, a Fabrique Nationale automatic rifle, and over 5,000 rounds of ammunition.
The suspects have been subjected to further interrogations to extract more intelligence aimed at dismantling the gunrunning network.
“The success of this operation marks a critical step towards decimating illegal arms supply in the region,” said Major Stephen Nantip Zhakom, Military Public Information Officer for Operation Safe Haven.
The operation, carried out between midnight on September 16 and the early hours of September 17, highlights the Nigerian Army’s continued efforts to curb illegal arms trade and enhance security in the region.
Authorities are optimistic that further investigation will lead to the capture of other members of the syndicate involved in the illegal arms trade.
