Final Year Student Of AAUA Commits Suicide In Church Premises

A female student of Ondo State owned Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Modupe Ayandare has reportedly committed suicide beside her church in the university community.

Ayandare, the president of Nigerian Association of Agricultural Students (NAAS) according to several sources left a suicide note, the content which has not been disclosed as at the time of this report.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the AAUA student union, Noble Olaogbebikan confirmed the death of the president of NAAS. He however did not disclose the content of the suicide note.

Olaogbebikan in a statement said “We express in strong terms our dissatisfaction and agony with respect to the death of one of our students, Ayandare Modupe. A 500 student of department of agronomy (agronomy departmental president).

“According to report the deceased was said to have committed suicide at the early hour of today around 4 am in the morning after they finished vigil in her church. The incident happened beside the church she attend around sportless villa.

“The law enforcement agencies have been informed already and all hands are on desk in getting to the root of the situation. Be rest assured that justice will be served and the law enforcement agency will do thorough investigation.”

Also, a letter to the students of the department by Raphael Alake, on behalf of NAAS said “It is with a heavy heart that I write to inform you of a tragic event that has deeply affected our community. We have lost one of our own, Comrade Modesty, who served as the President of the Department of Agronomy. Her passing, by suicide at Onireason Street’s permanent site, is a profound loss to us all.

“During this difficult time, we urge everyone to come together in support of one another. The mental well-being of our members is of utmost importance, and we encourage anyone who may be struggling to seek help. Our faculty offers counselling services, and we are here to support you in any way we can.

“Please join me in extending our deepest condolences to Comrade Modesty’s family, friends, and colleagues. Let us honour her memory by fostering a compassionate and supportive environment for all.”

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya said investigation has begun to unravel the cause of the death.
