Collapsed Amphitheatre: Adeleke Directs Intervention To Repair Damaged Structure

Following the sudden collapse of the roof of Obafemi Awolowo University’s Amphitheatre on Thursday, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has directed the state commissioner of education to liaise with the university authorities on necessary interventions to ameliorate impacts on the affected structure.

Recall that six students of the institution were injured when the lecture theatre gave way as a result of the heavy downpour during a morning lecture on Thursday.

Governor Adeleke while reacting to the development stated that he is devastated by the unfortunate incident.

A statement issued by Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, and made available to CityMirrorNews on Friday in Osogbo, quoted the governor as saying “This incident, which has caused injuries to some students, is quite unfortunate, and as a government, he assured the school management and the affected students of the support of the state.

“In the interim, I have directed the Commissioner of Education to liaise with the authorities at the OAU on necessary interventions to ameliorate impacts on the affected.

“I urge the people of the state to stand in solidarity with the institution, most especially injured students, and render any available support, including donation of blood if required.

“I also pray for the quick recovery of injured students while hoping that the OAU overcomes this dastard experience in no time to be able to focus on the pursuit for academic excellence.”

Meanwhile, the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof Simeon Bamire, revealed that the injured students were immediately rushed to a medical facility where they were receiving the best medical attention.

In a statement by the university Spokesperson, Abiodun Olanrewaju on Thursday, Prof Bamire called on students and staff to go about their academic and administrative activities.

The Amphitheatre has also been closed down by the university management.
