Gov Abiodun Approves N77,000 Minimum Wage For Workers In Ogun
The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun has approved a new minimum wage of N77,000 for workers in the state.
The new salary structure, according to a statement made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, the State capital on Monday, takes immediate effect.
Abiodun made the announcement after a crucial meeting with the leadership of the Organised Labour, including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and Joint Negotiating Council (JNC).
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Tokunbo Talabi, the meeting focused on the implementation of the new wage structure.
Abiodun emphasized that no worker in Ogun State should earn less than N77,000 starting from this month.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of citizens, particularly in light of current economic challenges.
Additionally, Abiodun highlighted that he was engaging with the organised private sector to encourage them to adopt a similar wage structure.
He noted that workers in the private sector were equally affected by the prevailing economic realities and urged employers to enter into dialogue with their stakeholders to establish an appropriate minimum wage.
A monitoring team will also be set up to ensure private sector compliance and to prevent workers from being short-changed.
This new policy is seen as part of the governor’s broader effort to alleviate the suffering of the people of Ogun State and enhance the overall standard of living.
