Map Out Strategies To Alleviate Hardship- Great Ife Alumni Association Urges FG

The Osogbo branch of the Great Ife Alumni Association has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to map out strategies to alleviate present hardship in the country.

The association in a communique issued at the end of its meeting on Tuesday, emphasized on the need for the Federal Government to review the national minimum wage, adding that a realistic figure should be implemented in interest of the labour force.

The communique drafted and jointly signed by Revd. ‘Lowo Adebiyi, (Chairman), Mr. Oluwamayowa Fagbohungbe, (Secretary) and Barr.
Mosunmola Ogunkola (Member) enjoined the Joint Labour Movement to prioritize reversal to Old Electricity Tariff, Security, Immediate drastic reduction in the prices of commodities, basic amenities and the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in their ongoing agitation.

The communique partly reads, ” the Federal Government should immediately map out strategies to alleviate the present hardship in the Land.

“The Federal Government should understand the plights of the Labour with respect to the ongoing National Minimum Wage by ensuring that a rational and realistic figure is arrived at in the overall interest of the Nation’s Workforce soon.

“The State Governors should equally do the needful in this regard at the Subnational level by inviting their Joint Labour Movements for sincere and transparent roundtable with a view to generating and implementing a rational and realistic figure for their workers.

“The Joint Labour Movement should prioritize Reversal to Old Electricity Tariff, Security, Immediate drastic reduction in the prices of commodities, basic amenities and the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in their ongoing agitation.

“The critical sectors of the economy like Fire Service, Health, Power(National Grid), Water, etc shouldn’t have been shut down to join the industrial action, as the downtrodden in the society which the industrial action sought to protect were adversely affected during the two-day strike action.

“By way of living by example, the salaries, allowances and other financial privileges of the political class should be downwardly reviewed forthwith.”
