Nigeria’s First Lady Donates N1bn To OAU For Infrastructure Dev
…Decries Decaying Maintenance Culture In Nigerian Institutions
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Olufemi Tinubu on Thursday donated the sum of N1 billion to Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife in Osun State for enhancement of horticulture and landscape of the institution.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu who said she graduated from the great Ife 41 years ago lamented the rate of which the institution look unkept, saying during her days, OAU was one of the best institutions in terms environmental neatness.
The Nigeria’s First Lady who sought the support of wives of the governors across the federation donated the money through her Renewed Hope Initiative.
She made this known while speaking during the official inauguration of 2 .7 kilometer of Senator Oluremi Tinubu Way, with glowing street solar lamps and unveiling of Grand Pavilion and Monument in her honour at Obafemi Awolowo university OAU held at the university Auditorium in Ife in osun state.
CityMirrorNews reports that project was donated by Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi.
She commended Ooni Oguwusi for his contributions to the institution also used the occasion to congratulate the monarch for attaining his 50 years gold jubilee .
She, however, decried the lack of maintenance culture in the institution, adding that many great institutions around the world built over 200 years ago look very good due to adequate and proper maintenance which she said, some of Nigerian universities lack..
The first lady who said she was proud to have graduated from the university forty years ago, enjoined the authority of the institution to continue to maintain the integrity which the the institution is known for .
“Most institutions around the world built in 200 years ago still look good .This is because there is maintenance culture of which some of Nigerian universities lack.
“As Alma mater of this great institution, I am very proud to have graduated from this campus 41 years ago. We must cultivate the habit of maintenance .
“What I saw here on my arrival especially on the environment was not pleasant to me.We used to clean up the environment during our time.
“I charged the authority of this great institution to continue to develop and maintain the already existing infrastructures while we continue to built on those already on ground .
In his remarks, the Governor of Osun state Senator Ademola Adeleke who was represented by his deputy prince Kola Adewusi said the state government commended the first lady’s numerous contributions to humanity and humanity
Adekeke hinted that Senator Oluremi Tinubu love for education development in Nigeria can not be overemphasized adding that his administration will continue to support education for the betterment of the society
Earlier, the Ọọ̀ni of Ifẹ̀, Oba Adeyeye Eyitan Oguwusi applauded the first lady of Nigeria for her numerous contributions to humanity and the society as a whole .
Ooni said: ” I recognize in you, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the same values that have guided our people for centuries resilience, wisdom, and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of others.
“Your efforts in the realms of education, through your New Era Foundation, and your continuous advocacy for the rights and opportunities of young girls and women, mirror the ethos of our ancestors, who always believed in the upliftment of future generations.
” I have been a keen admirer of Senator Oluremi Tinubu as a young man eking out a living in Lagos. One of my major attractions was the New Era Initiative especially as it concerns the One Day Governor in Lagos that is totally detribilised and provided opportunities to young secondary school boys and girls to become Governor in Lagos State. This has been a milestone and major inspiration for the younger ones to aspire and proper.
The vice chancellor of the university, Professor Adeboyo Bamire in his speech assured the first lady that institution under his watch will continue to excel in all area of academic excellence.
Professor Bamire said naming the newly constructed road after senator Olufemi Tinubu was because of her contributions to the society both when she was a senator of federal republic of Nigerian and now as first lady of the nation
He said the efforts are on to sustain the development of the institution with effective collaboration with Alimini of the institution.
Osun first lady Mrs Titilola Adeleke applauded the Mrs Tinubu for coming to the state assuring her that her good legacies of championing the cause of education of girl child will continue to linger in the minds of many less Privileged children and vulnerable in the society.
