Alleged Misconduct: NCoS Dismisses 3 Personnel, Sanctions 22 Others

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) on Thursday appointed Daniel Ogu as the new Deputy Controller of Prisons (DCP) at the Kirikiri Medium Security Prison in Lagos State, following the suspension of Michael Anugwa from the position.

New Telegraph recalls that Anugwa’s suspension, announced last week, is linked to allegations of bribery and corruption involving popular social media personality, Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky.

Anugwa is accused of enabling Bobrisky to serve a six-month sentence under more comfortable conditions, reportedly in a private lodge, instead of standard prison facilities.

The allegations surfaced after Bobrisky was alleged to have made cash payments to circumvent prison regulations.

The situation came to light during a House of Representatives session on September 30, where Anugwa was summoned to address the scandal. When asked about his suspension, he said, “They did not serve me a letter, sir. It is a social media suspension,” a remark that further escalated public outrage.

In response, the NCoS clarified that Anugwa had been officially suspended pending an investigation by an independent panel.

The service emphasized that his continued role in the prison would be inappropriate given the serious nature of the bribery claims, which include cash payments made by Bobrisky.

Additional reports from insiders at Kirikiri Prison have also surfaced, accusing Anugwa of physically assaulting inmates.

One insider revealed that on April 24, Anugwa, along with prison wardens, allegedly flogged inmates.

The source added that Anugwa became upset after Bobrisky was transferred to a maximum-security prison following the leak of a video showing him donating chairs to the prison.

However, the NCoS has stated that it is committed to a thorough investigation and has appointed Ogu as Anugwa’s replacement to maintain order at the facility while the inquiry continues.
