Homes, Schools, Others Destroyed As Rainstorm Hits Osun Community
Residents of Eripa, Boluwaduro Local Government Area of Osun state, yesterday, continued to count their losses following Sunday night’s rainstorm that wreaked havoc in the town.
Though, no live was lost, but properties worth millions of Naira were destroyed.
CityMirrorNews learned that the whirlwind that preceded the rain started at exactly around 7:00pm. By the time the rain subsided many houses were badly damaged and trees uprooted.
The rainstorm, apart from destroying residential buildings, also destroyed church, mosque while electrical poles were uprooted, throwing the whole community into darkness
Areas of the town that were worst hit are Community High School, Ile Alasopo compound, Isale Soorun, Iyalode compound, rinsayo area and among others, where buildings and other structures including schools were pulled down.
A resident of the town, who identified himself as Waheed described the incident as shocking, even though it is a natural disaster and solicited for quick assistance from the state government and other well-meaning individuals, saying the destruction was monumental.
He said, “We know what in the economy is saying right now, we know that there is paucity of funds and prices are on the high side but notwithstanding we have to make point of call to the government that we need assistance.
Speaking, the Chairman, Eripa Progressives Union (IPU), Mr Wole Oyedele who described the incident as an act of God, said the heavy rain wrecked havoc on most buildings in the town.
He lamented that the effect of the rainstorm was devastating, describing it as unfortunate while many residents of the community have been rendered homeless.
Oyedele called on the state and federal government for assistance in repairing the buildings destroyed by the storm, saying the rain affected social and commercial activities in the town.
