Sokoto NBA Loses Three Members To Cancer-Related Diseases

Chairman, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Sokoto State Branch, Barrister Muhammad Nuhu has said no fewer than three lawyers died due to Cancer-related diseases in the state.

The NBA Chairman noted that 80 percent of the reported deaths in Sokoto State were as a result of Cancer-related diseases.

Barr Nuhu stated this while briefing newsmen and explained that the state branch of the association recently lost some of its colleagues to cancer related diseases while other members lost their relatives as a result of the cancer ailments.

However, as a swift measure to prevent the spread of the disease, the association partners with the National Institute of Cancer Research and Treatment Abuja to mitigate the menace among the association’s members as well as among the general public in the state .

He maintained that as part of the effort the association organised a Cancer walk where members embarked on trekking across some major streets in the Sokoto metropolis.

In addition, over 200 members and other people have been tested during the one day outreach held at the NBA Secretariat in Sokoto.

“Even last week ,we lost one of our colleagues ,you all know him, Hassan Suka as a result of cancer-related diseases.

“Yes,I think coming on board as the NBA Chairman ,we lost not less than three of our members from Cancer issues”.

According to him ,so many members lost their relatives and vividly remembered that a very senior colleague in the state, also his wife ,and others lost their father,brothers and sisters .

While noting that all the death reports people are hearing from Sokoto recently are related to the NBA members and were as a result of Cancer diseases.

He therefore stressed the need to raise the awareness about cancer so that people can take preventive measures and go for any test to prevent the spread of the disease.

The members on Saturday staged a competitive Walk Race amongst Gentlemen in Skirts –as well as fitness and Cancer Awareness Walk and free Cancer Related Medical Outreach to be conducted at the NBA Secretariat, Sokoto.

He thanked the Sokoto State Government for the cordial working relationship and support existing between the state government and the NBA in the state and hoped the gesture will continue .
