Angry Protesters Set Jigawa Reps Member’s House Ablaze
The ongoing Hunger/Endbadgovernance Protest took on a dangerous dimension in Jigawa State, as angry protesters set the residence of the member representing Gumel/Maigatari/Sule Tankarkar/Gagarawa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Nazifi Sani Gumel, on fire on Tuesday morning.
Reports say some angry youth have started moving from house to house of known politicians to wreak havoc and set houses ablaze.
The youths said they were attacking the houses and properties of Jigawa politicians because of hunger and economic hardship they believed were caused by politicians.
In the video seen on X on Tuesday, some youths were seen burning a mansion built by a serving House of Representatives member, with billows of smoke coming out of the building.
After setting the house on fire, the protesters ran away while sympathisers could be seen clustering around the building, but could not go close to the building.
The youths accused the lawmaker of neglecting their constituency after his election 14 months ago during the last general elections.
In a similar incident that happened in Yobe State, another set of angry youth attacked a current serving Senator’s House for allegedly siphoning public funds meant for the development of his district.
