Adeboye Tenders Apology Over Comment On Tithes, Says He Made Mistake

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has publicly tendered an apology over his comment on the payment of tithes.

Adeboye on Thursday night at the ongoing International Youth Convention (IYC) with the theme ‘Dominion’ at the Redemption Camp, Ogun State, said he made a mistake for having said “If you do not pay tithes you might not make heaven.”

Viewing that paying 10 per cent of an income as tithe is for beginners, he maintained that it was wrong for him to limit the worshipers when some should be paying more than 20 per cent, 30 per cent, 40 percent etc.

He made the apology in the middle of his sermon, where he highlighted the secrets to dominance, while narrating how the Biblical Solomon broke the record of seven to 22,000 oxens/bulls (and 120,000 sheeps) as sacrifice.

“Now I am going to be talking to everybody as soon as God permits me. I am going to be apologising for making a mistake. For saying, ‘If you don’t pay tithe, you might not make it to heaven’, that’s wrong, that’s not in the Bible. What the Bible says is, ‘be at peace with all men and holiness without which no man shall see God,” he stated.

Following a cheer from the congregation, he continued:”You know it is possible to be right and wrong. Now let me tell you, listen to me. You know it is possible to be right and wrong at the same time. I will prove it to you.

“I mean I am a scientist so I know that for years, we taught that light travels in straight line. Now is that correct? I mean those of you who know a little bit of Physics will say ‘sure but light doesn’t bend at corners, it goes straight.’

“But later we discovered that it was not straight as a rod, light travels in waves. Going in one direction but in waves. It is wrong to limit you to 10 per cent at a time when some of you should be giving 20 per cent, 30 per cent, 40 per cent; 10 per cent should be for beginners.”

Stressing payment of tithes as part of the criteria for financial dominance, Adeboye narrated his encounter with a business owner at Kenneth Hagin’s programme who revealed to him the secret of his exponential growth as the payment of 90 per cent of his income as tithes.

He added:”I believe God will give me an opportunity very soon to tell you the details. Giving should be violently done. You want to be the one at the top, you want to be the one who will control finances, you have to go far beyond 10 per cent.

“I am not paying 90 per cent yet, I’m far from 10 per cent. It is wrong for me to say you should be paying 10 per cent .”
