Lagos Hospitality Sector Discusses with Lagos State Govt At Stakeholders Meeting
In a landmark gathering convened by the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, recently held a high-level stakeholders meeting at Eko Hotel, bringing together key government agencies and leaders from across the hospitality sector.
The meeting, held on May 31, 2024, was attended by the Honorable Commissioner for Tourism of Lagos State, as well as representatives from various Government bodies including the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), and the Lagos Internal Revenue Service (LIRS). Joining the RCBC Association delegation were industry leaders from the Hotel Owners Association, event centers, caterers, and other hospitality businesses.
“This meeting marked a significant milestone for the hospitality industry in Lagos, as we were able to start a very important discussion with the State government to find collaborative solutions to the issues impacting our businesses,” said Morenike George-Taylor, the RCBC Association’s President.
The discussion provided a valuable opportunity for open dialogue between the Government agencies and the hospitality sector, which is a major contributor to Lagos economy, employing thousands of people and generating millions in tax revenue.
The Government representatives listened intently to the concerns raised by the hospitality leaders, ranging from traffic management and parking regulations to environmental compliance and tax policies. Both sides acknowledged the need for a more collaborative approach to address these challenges and ensure the continued growth and development of the industry.
“The insights gained from this meeting will be invaluable as we work to advocate for the interest of our members and foster a more collaborative relationship between the hospitality industry and the Lagos State Government,” said Tannaz Banham, a member of the RCBC Association’s Board of Trustees.
The RCBC Association and the broader hospitality sector are now poised to leverage this engagement with government agencies to address the challenges discussed during the stakeholders meeting and drive the growth and development of the hospitality industry.
It seems like a good initiative that should be adopted by other States to promote tourism.
