Abductors Of Nasarawa LG Chair Demand N50m Ransom

Abductors of a local government chairman and one other last night in Nasarawa State have placed a demand of N50 million for the release of their victims.

It would be recalled that the Chairman of Akwanga Local Government Council, Alhaji Safiyanu Isah Andaha, and Adamu Umar Tanko were kidnapped yesterday at about 8.30 pm along Adaha-Akwanga road in Akwanga Local Government Area of the state.

A family source who pleaded anonymity disclosed this to our correspondent this morning, stating that a negotiation is ongoing between the family and the gunmen.

The Special Adviser to the Nasarawa State Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Haruna Kassimu, confirmed yesterday the abduction of the council boss and one other at Ningo village at about 8:30 p.m. on January 1st, 2024.

Meanwhile, the Police Command in Nasarawa State has said it is investigating the abduction of Safiyanu Isa-Andaha, Chairman, Akwanga Local Government Area, including Adamu Umar Tanko, who was also kidnapped along with the council chairman.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Ramhan Nansel, told our correspondent in Lafia on Tuesday that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Umar Nadada, has mobilised personnel for the possible rescue of the chairman and one other person kidnapped.

“The police, in collaboration with other security agencies, are currently on the trail of the kidnappers to ensure the release of the council chairman and the other victim.

Nansel therefore urged members of the public, especially people from villages around the area, to provide the police with credible information that would lead to the rescue of the abducted and the arrest of the perpetrators.
