A detailed investigation by our reporters has revealed the reasons why the state government stopped further distribution of palliatives allocated to the State by the Federal Government.

The state government had announced commencement of palliative distribution on Tuesday but the arrangement changed due to reported intervention from Abuja.

A source from the State Emergency Agency revealed that the federal agency in charge of palliative distribution insisted that due verification must be made before commencement of the distribution for transparency and accountability.

The source further revealed that the message from Abuja also directed that unless the total allocation is received the state should not proceed with the sharing process.

The state was consequently directed to secure the existing allocation and fix a new date after ongoing protests for the commencement of distribution.

“We were set to start distribution as announced on Monday by the Commissioner for Information. All arrangements were already in place.

“But we were told to stop the process. The reasons include the.need for all the packages to arrive and the need for verification of the distribution exercise.

“ We were indeed warned not to breach the directive. So we stopped the process.

“ We are waiting for the protests to be concluded. Also we are waiting for the final batch to arrive. Then the federal team will inspect and we then fix a date for sharing”, the source who sought anonymity said.

The palliatives comprise of garri, corn and upcoming batches of rice recently announced by the Federal Government.
