Makinde Assents Reviewed Oyo Chiefs Law
Oyo state Governor Seyi Makinde has signed into law the amended state Chiefs Law Cap 28 seeking to grant the Governor autonomy to present
beaded crowns and coronets to chiefs in the state.
The Governor who granted assent to the amendment at the executive council chambers in the presence of traditional rulers across the state and principal officers of the state house of assembly, noted that the development would help the traditional council function well and forestall constant litigation
Governor Seyi Makinde also explained that though attempts had been made by previous administrations to change the state chiefs law which resulted in several controversies, but his goverrnment has allowed due processes to prevail in the interest of all stakeholders
Earlier, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Mohammed Fadeyi before presenting the amended bill to the Governor gave a rundown of the legislative processes culminating in the amendment, expressing hope that the new law would impact the state positively.
The Olubadan of Ibadanland Oba Mohood Balogun, represented by the Balogun Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Owolabi Olakulehin led the Olubadan in council and other traditional rulers to the ceremony.
