Court Remands Skit Maker, Parents Of 10-yr-old Sexualized Minor In Ibadan

A Family Court sitting at Iyaganku, Ibadan, has ordered a skit maker, Maruf Abdullahi, popularly known as “Trinity Guy”, to be remanded in Agodi Correctional Facility for allegedly sexually exploited a 10-year old minor in Ibadan Oyo state ccapita.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs P.O. Adetuyibi, ordered that the suspect be kept behind the bars till July 11, 2023 due to the magnitude of the offence.

The Prosecution similarly arraigned the parents of the minor: Isiaka Ahmed (40), and Rofiat (29), on a two-count charge of conspiracy and sexual abuse and exploitation alongside the skit maker.

Magistrate Adetuyibi, who declined the defendants’ plea for lack of jurisdiction to entertain the matter, said that the case file had been filed and duplicated at the Oyo State Ministry of Justice awaiting legal advice.

The three defendants will remain in the Agodi Correctional Facility, Ibadan, until July 11 when their case would come up for mention.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Oludare Adebayo, had however argued that Section 41 of the Criminal Code empowered the court to hear the matterl, adding that the victim was a product of poverty.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Oluwakemi Arowosaye, had told the court that the three defendants conspired together to sexually abuse the girl, adding that: “Trinity Guy”, on Dec. 17, 2022, sexually abused and exploited the girl at Kuola area of Ibadan.

“Abdullahi was asking the victim the colour of his penis, recording the scene and posting it on social media,” she said.

According to her, the offences are contrary to Section 35 (1) and punishable under Section 35 (2) of Oyo State Child Right’s Law, 2006, as well as, contravened Section 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The parents were arraigned for displaying lack of proper care for their daughter who was inadvertently allowed to be sexualized.

According to the letters of the Child Rights Law, 2006, if the skit maker is found guilty of the offence, he is liable to 15 years imprisonment.
