2023: Lions Club Urges Politicians, Youths To Shun Electoral Violence
The districts Governor of Lions Clubs International Multiple District 404 of Nigerian, Aare Lekan Owolabi has urged politicians and youth to shun electoral violence and embrace peace in the forthcoming February 25, 2023 general elections.
DG Owolabi Made the call on Thursday while addressing press conference on the opening of the Lions Club Councils of Governors Meeting Convention 2022- 2023 held in Osogbo, Capital of Osun State.
He advised politicians to emulate Lions clubs election saying the club is organized and that they elect leaders without causing violence and hatred among others.
He said: “If Only Nigerian Politicians can emulate our elections the country would have be a better place. Our election is well organized and rancor free elections. We are not desperate.
Politicians also should abstain from intimidating electorate and shouldn’t impose on anyone.
“Let us all strive to build structures for peace and also give peace a chance. We must all work for peace at all times and the youths should avoid serving as thugs and hoodlums to politicians. There is nothing you gain at the end of the day than destruction and death.”
Speaking further, he said the club has been contributing its quota in assisting the government in carrying out some project in the State adding that government alone cannot do everything.
He said: “Our visitation to Osun is to show we are partner in progress, we have embarked on some projects in Osun mostly in health sector and educution sector.
“We are partner in progress, we start where government stopped, we are here to serve, render help.
Lion Owolabi also urged Federal government to do something fast about the phenomenal of brain drain to ensure it doest not affect the country’s development.
He said government should sit down think, work together and get solution.
Speaking also, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Chairperson for the Convention Lion Oluomo Sunday Akere said this year Convention is an opportunity for members of the humanitarian organization to come together and review activities and achievements of the association in the various localities
“The District 404B2 is headed by the District Governor Lion Aare Lekan Owolabi MJF NLCF who will be leading Lions members from about Eighty Seven (87) clubs that cuts across ten (10) states of the federation to Osun State for the three days event.
” Some of the achievements of the association in Osun State include the Diabetes Screening and Treatment Center at General Hospital Ede, the Ophthalmology Eyes Screening and Treatment Center at Asubiaro State Hospital that was built at a cost of over $300,000.00 and several other interventions in towns and villages across the state.
“The 9th District Convention starts on Thursday 26th with a press conference to be addressed by the District Governor Lion Aare Lekan Owolabi MJF NLCF at Aurora Event Center followed by visits to the Executive Governor Sen. Ademola Adeleke, media houses in town, Sports Competition between clubs and an all white Hospitality Night in the evening.
“The Opening Session/First Plenary for the Convention which will hold on Friday 27th January, 2023 will be declared open by the Executive Governor Sen. Ademola Adeleke. Expected to be the Chairman at the Opening Ceremony is the former Governor of Osun State Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola while the Royal Father of the Day is HRM Oba Engr Hammed Adekunle Oyelude Makama Olowu of Owu-Kuta while Lion Dr. Muyiwa Oladimeji will be the Guest Speaker.
Other events lined up for the day are Jumat Service at Alekuwodo Mosque, Parade by all clubs from Osogbo Stadium to Freedom Park and Cultural Night at Aurora Event Center.
On Saturday 28th of January there will be visits to Ancient Monuments and Sites followed by Second Plenary Session, 3rd Cabinet Meeting for the year while the Banquet Night will round up activities for the Convention before departure on Sunday morning.
