Popular Journalist Peter Enahoro Dies At 88

A veteran journalist and one of Nigeria’s most celebrated columnists, Peter Enahoro, is dead.

Enahoro, popularly known by his pen name, Peter Pan, died in London, the United Kingdom on Monday, aged 88.

The development was announced in a terse statement by Nigeria’s foremost female journalist, Ms Bunmi Sofola.

The statement read in part, “Regret to announce the passing on of our iconic journalist Peter Enahoro “Peter Pan” today in London at the age of 88. RIP.

“Also known by the pen name of “Peter Pan” because of his popular column in New African magazine under that name. He has been described as ‘perhaps Africa’s best-known international journalist’”.

Born January 21, 1935, Enahoro was a journalist, author, businessman and publisher.

The deceased columnist is one of the pioneers of Nigerian journalism and became editor of the Daily Times at a young age.

Enahoro attended the prestigious Government College, Ughelli (in present-day Delta State), and was a contemporary of the famous poet and Africa’s first professor of English, JP Clark.
