Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, FCIB: MD, Nigeria Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA)
Mr Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, born on the 17th November 1965, is an experienced banker of more than 28 years. Oyebamiji served as a two-term Commissioner for Finance during the administrations of former Governors Rauf Aregbesola and Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State. He is a holder of Master’s degrees in Public Administration and Business Administration. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria; the Institute of Chartered Economists of Nigeria; and the Association of Enterprise Risk Management Professionals, Nigeria.
Mr Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji was part of the the delegation of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy to the recently concluded UNGA ’78 led by HE Gboyega Oyetola, the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, in the US. Chief among his involvement at the General Assembly was his participation in a meeting with the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, where issues bordering on Partnerships for Atlantic Cooperation were extensively discussed.
Professionally, Oyebamiji began his banking career at the International Banking Division of Wema Bank Plc in 1987, where he served as the Assistant Manager. He later moved to Trans International Bank Plc, Ikeja, Lagos in 1998 as a Senior Manager where he rose to the position of the Head of Lagos Region as a Principal Manager in 2003. During this period, Mr Oyebamiji was well exposed to the maritime sector where most of his customers were big players, including Caverton Marine. His thirst for more challenging roles and experience in 2005 took him to Spring Bank Plc as Head of the Business Development Unit, Victoria Island, Lagos; and in 2009, he moved to Enterprise Bank Ltd, Victoria Island, Lagos as Head of Retail Business where he later rose to the position of a Cluster Manager. His vast experience, capacity, and love for his community and its development led to his appointment as the Managing Director/ CEO of the then moribund Osun State Investment Company Limited, Osogbo in 2012. His interventions led to an unprecedented growth in the fortunes of the organisation which was eventually recapitalized and renamed Omoluabi Holdings Limited, Osogbo. His performance at the company, among other considerations, earned him an appointment as the Honourable Commissioner for Finance under Governor Rauf Aregbesola in June 2017.
To broaden his mind, Oyebamiji at various times attended numerous courses both in Nigeria and abroad. Some of these include Enterprise Risk Management and Corporate Governance, Turkey in 2019; Influencing Skill course at the Pan African University (Lagos Business School) in 2018; Effective Board Leadership at the Mortgage Banking Association of Nigeria, Lagos in 2017; Re-inventing Osun for Growth & Sustainability IMPC Ltd/Peter Longworth CMG UK in 2016; Currency Trading Programme 1 in New York in 2006; Currency Trading Programme 2 United Kingdom in 2006; Currency Trading Programme 3 Las Vegas in 2006, United State of America; Management Development Seminar at the Pan African University in 2006; Foreign Exchange Management Course Euro-Money in New York, U.S.A in 2004.
Similarly, Mr Oyebamiji also attended a series of workshops, seminars and conferences including the 1st Line Consulting Ltd, held in the United Kingdom in 2017; Enhancing the Effectiveness of FAAC, Akwa-Ibom-Uyo in 2017; 3rd African International Conference on Islamic Finance, Abuja in 2017; Achieving Effective Tax Administration, Abuja in 2017; Directors Conference-Nigeria-China Local Government and Business Dialogue, Abuja in 2016; the International Finance Conference at the London School of Economics in 2002; and workshop on Fraud Detection, Prevention and Control. Others are seminars on Money Laundering Returns; Marketing and Selling Skills; Budget & Monetary Policy and Relationship Management, and Market Strategies Course.
It is worthy of note that, as a successful banker and an outstanding performer, Mr Bola Oyebamiji at various times received a series of awards including the Most Outstanding Commissioner of the Year Award (2019 and 2020 Fiscal year); Outstanding Deposit Performance Award in 2007 (Spring Bank); Excellent Performance Award in 2007 (Spring Bank); Outstanding Branch Performance and Most Profitable Manager of the Year in 2004 (Trans International Bank); Half-year Award for Outstanding Performance in 2001 ( Trans International Bank); and End of the Year Commendation in 1999 (Trans International Bank).
Mr Oyebamiji is a member of notable social, business and development clubs including the Ikoyi Club 1938, Lagos; the Lagos Country Club, Ikeja, Lagos; the GODI Management Health and Leisure Club, Lagos; the Junior Chambers International JCI; the Destiny Club; Ikire; the Ikire Progressive Union; and the Ikire Businessmen Club.
Honourable Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji is a devoted Muslim and a committed member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He has a solid grasp of hot-button issues from various political standpoints. His emphasis on ethics, openness in government, and inclusive approach to grassroots mobilization shows his extensive knowledge of local and national politics. He is happily married and blessed with wonderful children.
