NCS, Foundation, Partner On Good Mental Health Cautions Against Stigmatisation

The Nigeria Correctional Services (NCS), Osun Command, has partnered with the Psychcare Humaniterex Foundation, an NGO, on good mental health and the need to create more awareness against social stigmatisation.

Mr Tolu Ogunsakin, Comptroller of Corrections, Osun Command, receiving the foundation team on Friday in Osogbo, said the partnership would assist in educating NCS officials on the need to watch over their mental health.

Ogunsakin said mental health illness has become a global challenge with millions of persons losing their lives on daily basis.

He said some persons are suffering from all sorts of depression that had affected everything they do.

He said the need to create more awareness and advocacy on mental health challenges could be of great benefits not only to NCS officers but other targeted audiences.

The NCS Boss praised foundation for sensitising his officers on the need to take care and protect themselves while on active services and after retirement.

Ogunsakin said the state command would continue to sensitised its officers on good mental health  with the support of key stakeholders .

The convener, Mr Andrew Dosumu, said the essence of Psychcare Humaniterex Foundation partnership was to ensure adequate protection for persons with mental health challenges.

Dosumu said good mental health was vital to the overall health and well-being of anyone in the aspect of their lives, from work to school to home and other social settings.

He said that the recent world mental health day celebrations  gives  opportunities to people and communities to unite, improved their knowledge, raise awareness and drive actions that promote and protect mental health .

”  Good mental health impact relationships and also are keys to long-term happiness of every individuals in the society,” he said.

According to him,  the foundation will continue to partner with the NCS to create the necessary awareness on mental health among its officers .

Dosumu praised Ogunsakin for the opportunity given to his team to enlightened and educate officers on the dangers of mental health illnesses.

NAN reports that World Mental Health 2023 has as its theme ” Mental health is a universal human right” and celebrated every Oct. 10 according to the World Health Organisation .
