Arrest, Prosecute Corrupt Politicians While In Office, Says Oguntoyinbo

As part of measures to curb corruption among political office holders in the country, the Ogun State governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party NNPP, Ambassador Olufemi Oguntoyinbo has called for the arrest and prosecution of politicians found to have embezzled public funds while in office and not after their tenure of office.

He also advocated for a bill that will compel every aspiring political office holder to sign undertakings which when breached, will attract jail term to serve as checks on their conduct and activities

Oguntoyinbo stated this while speaking with newsmen shortly after his investiture as a Patron of the Oyo State Correspondents Chapel in Ibadan held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, Oyo State Council Millennium Hall, Iyaganku, Ibadan.

“Politicians should be made to sign an undertaking and if we failed to put such in place, many politicians will come and go without any improvement in the nation.

” If I signed a bill of undertaking that if i failed, send me to jail, I think that is what would help us and not after somebody finished his or her term in office, we know start making arrest for not performing

“Any politician who failed in his assignment or embezzled public funds should be arrested while in office as being done in advanced countries of the world.” he said.

The business icon in a lecture he delivered on the occasion titled “Contesting 2023 General Elections: The Ogun State Experience” alleged that security agencies and political thugs were used to intimidate and threaten him as witnessed in violent attacks during his electioneering campaign trail .

Governor Dapo Abiodun was declared winer of the March 18 Governorship/ Houses Of Assembly elections in the State by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Oguntoyinbo who berated INEC over its failure to include the name of his party on the ballot papers making it difficult for the voters to identify the party said however that the party has commenced preparations for the 2027 elections .

According to him, the Party’s structure is being put in place in all the wards and local government areas of the state while also ensuring that leaders and future contestants on the platform of the party are not sellouts.

Earlier In his welcome address, the Chairman, Oyo State Correspondent Chapel, Comrade Raji Adebayo appealed to President Bola Tinubu to review the implementation policy of the subsidy removal on petrol and hasten parliative to cushion it’s effect on the masses and as well channel the proceeds from the subsidy removal to infrastructure development.
