The Managing Director of Lafes Buildings and Property Ltd, Ibadan Engr Biodun Olowolafe has admonished stakeholders in the Nigeria construction sector to let their work always reflect capacity and competence.

This he described as a further measure to promote local content, technology and innovations as well as measure to challenge government to patronize local service providers more than the foreign.

Engr Olowolafe gave the charge in Ibadan during a ceremony where he was conferred with a ‘Professional Fellowship Doctorate in Real Estate by The Chartered Institute of Public Management and Politics, (Ghana).

Engr Olowolafe said tracing collapsed buildings and defective structures to local contractors was not good for the image of a sector advocating for improved patronage of local content by government.

He called on government to give more attention to the local built environment as it’a being done in the Oil and Gas sector, describing same as a major impetus in building a sustainable national economy.

“We can only appeal to government to consider more patronage from the local manpower. There is nothing expatriate will do that Nigerians are not capable of doing. Encouraging local contractors by way of patronage will stop capital flight and help the home economy”

The MD of Lafes Buildings and Property thanked the institute for finding him worthy of the honour which he said he dedicated to the glory of God and service of humanity.

Presenting the certificate of the Doctoral honour on behalf of the Council, the Executive Director of the Institute for the West Africa Region, Dr Richard I. Kpoku who led of officials of the Institute remarked that the Institute of Public Management and Politics found Engr Olowolafe worthy of the honour following his nomination by an anonymous member of the public after meeting the criteria.

Dr Kpoku said, “As a young entrepreneur in the construction business, the story of Engr Olowolafe resonates outside the shores of Nigeria and it’s only imperative that such individuals contributing to the economy of the west Africa and Nigeria in particular are recognized and encouraged”
