Nsukka Council Boss Ban Heavy Trucks On Opi -Enugu- Ugwogo Road

The chairman of Nsukka LGA, under Dr. Walter Ozioko, has warned heavy-duty truck drivers to keep-off and avoid the new Opi-Ugwogo Road or be ready to face prosecution.

The chairman said this has become necessary in view of the gravity of damages on the road occasioned by these trucks .
“These heavy duty trucks often break the road barriers put in place to check their passages”.
“The incessant breakages of these barriers are totally unacceptable, especially now that the cost of repairing them when damaged is soaring geometrically.
THe noted that the cost of the repair is taking toll on the Council’s scarce resources.
Meanwhile residents of Opi community have applauded the efforts of the council chairman in area of road construction and rehabilitation.
The president general Opi General Assembly,Barr Kingsley Osondu who made the commendation in chat with journalist said the efforts recorded within his short period in office is commendable and encouraging.
Osondu who is popularly known as kimore described the Enugu – Ugwogo- road as the most viable dividend of Democracy bequited to Enugu and other road users by Former governor Sullivan Chime administration.
According to the legal luminary the road should be protected from being damaged because it is the only accessible road to Nsukka,and other Northern parts of the country through South East States.
He called on the federal government to intensify efforts on the rehabilitation of the 9th mile -Nsukka – Opi- Obollo – kogi – Benue express which is now a death trap.
