Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have killed the father of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Leader, Damian Okafor, Pa Ajah Damia Okafor in his Ishiagu area, Ivo local government area of Ebonyi State.

The gunmen also killed INEC Assistant Electoral Officer attached to Afikpo North Local Government Area of the state, Emmanuel Igwe and abducted his wife.

The incident occurred on Sunday. Igwe was shot dead by the suspected herdsmen who has been terrorizing Ishaiagu axis of the Lokpanta/Okigwe federal highway.

The INEC Assistant Electoral Officer was shot dead on his way from Abia State with his wife. The wife was however abducted by the hoodlums.

The gunmen was taking Igwe’s wife inside the bush on the highway when they saw Pas Aja Damian Igwe working in his farm and shot him dead instantly apparently to prevent him frm disclosing their location.

A source who did not want his name in print, said “one of our colleagues, an Assistant Electoral Officer in Afikpo North LGA, Emmanuel Igwe, was shot dead by Unknown Gunmen in Ivo on his way back from Abia State and his wife kidnapped.

Confirming the killing of his father to New Telegraph, Ohanaeze Youth Leader, Damian Okafor said “Fulani herdsmen terrorized Ishiagu area. They shot one man in his car and took the man’s wife . they were going inside the bush with the woman and my father was in his farm staking yam. They met my father there and killed him and they killed him may be so that he will not disclose their location.

!”They just slaughtered him like animal. When I was called, I couldn’t drive. Somebody drove me from Abakaliki today. I went to mortuary and saw my father’s corpse there. It was disheartening. Some policemen from Abakaliki have come to our place but they are not doing enough”.

Herdsmen have been terrorizing the Ishiagu/Lokpanta/Okigwe high was with many lives lost and many abducted.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya could not comment on the matter.
