Osun: PDP Group Chides Tinubu Over ‘Emi Lokan’ Slogan
A group, Professionals in PDP, Osun State chapter, on Friday, chided the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu over his slogan, ‘Emi Lokan’ (it’s my turn).
The group in a statement signed by its Convener, Dr Sam Segun-Progress and Secretary, Engr Segun Adebiyi, and made available to newsmen in Osogbo, said the North East zone where the presidential candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar came from was the only zone yet to produce a president.
According to the statement, the past 24 years of Nigeria’s democracy have produced two southern presidents who had spent 14 years in total while the northerners who also had two presidents have spent only 10 years.
The group in the statement said it would be only fair if the northerners were allowed to produce the next president.
The statement read in parts: “If Tinubu wants to do ‘Lokan’, the North East is the only zone that has never been president in Nigeria. Yoruba has been a president before.
“It is only in the North East that we never had anybody we can address as a former president. Babangida was from the North Central, and Azikuwe was from the East. So, the only zone left out is the North East where Atiku comes from.
“But we are not even talking about that. We are saying people should stop talking about fairness. What is the fairness in this subject matter? Former presidents Obasanjo and Jonathan are from the South and they spend 8 and 6 years respectively.
“Yaradua and Buhari from the North just spent 10 years. So, the South is owing the North 4 years. If we are talking about fairness, then these 4 years will have to come from the North.
“Maybe after 4 years, we may have balance in this 28 years of democracy but not at the moment”.
