NTA Staff Urges President Tinubu To Nullify Appointment Of EDs

There is palpable animosity among members of staff of the largest television network in Nigeria, the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) over the eleventh-hour appointment of new Executive Directors by the immediate past administration.

Sources privy to happenings in NTA said members of staff were treated to a rude shock when they received a press statement announcing the appointment of the new EDs at the time the new President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was being sworn in on May 29th.

“Many NTA staff were shocked that an outgoing government will still go ahead and appoint EDs when a new president is on board”, the source hinted.

He said the staff of the television organization will be glad if President Tinubu will look into the circumstances surrounding the appointment and reverse it.

Investigation by a group of journalists including a New Telegraph correspondent further revealed that when the new EDs resumed two weeks ago and with all the challenges that the organization is facing ranging from poor signals, lack of adequate equipment, poor staff welfare e.t.c, the first thing on their agenda was to procure new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado as official cars.

The source, which pleaded anonymity added that “Most NTA stations don’t even have operational vehicles while some are off air completely.

“The outside broadcast facility is appalling with poor video and audio signals. This is noticeable in the broadcast of the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly with intermittent audio failure.”

It was gathered that these appointments were carried out by some of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s aides who did it to favor some of their friends as a ‘handover’ gift.
