Court Commences Trial of Assault Against Chief Ajadosu

The magistrate court sitting in Ikirun jurisdiction of Osun State has commenced trial against 6 defendants who were alleged with conspiracy to commit felony to wit:
Assault, Robbery and Threatening Violence against Eesa of Obaagun, Chief Dauda Ajadosu last December.

The defendants are facing trial with various offences contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Laws of Osun State 2002.

While opening his case, the police prosecutor, Inspector Stephen Elisha informed the court that the prosecution would be calling 5 witnesses in order to establish his case against the defendants.

At the close of court’s sitting on 12th May, 2023, the Prosecution called only two of his witnesses before the court adjourned for ruling on whether the Prosecution could re-examine his second witness in the case.

The second prosecution witness was Chief Samson Babalola who doubles as the secretary to Olobaagun in Council.
Chief Babalola told the court that the first, second and fourth defendants forcefully boggled the palace on January 15th 2023, assaulted the Eesa of Obaagun, Chief Dauda Ajadosu and destroyed his chieftaincy beads.

Chief Samson who appeared with the palace minutes book further stated before the court that all the incidents were recorded in the book and the court admitted it in evidence and marked it as an exhibit in support of the prosecution’s case.

Giving his testimony before the court in a very graphic way which was not less than 2 hours, the nominal complainant and Eesa of Obaagun, High Chief Dauda Ajadosu explained to the court that the defendants threatened to kill him on the said date before he escaped by mere whiskers. He stressed that the defendants destroyed his traditional beads and stole his staff of office during the attack.

While speaking the counsel to the nominal complainant, Chief Abdulfatai Abdulsalam, stated that the charges against the defendants reflected conducts likely to cause breach of peace, assault, threat to life, stressing that his client’s prayers before the court is to consider the pieces of evidence before the court and convict all the defendants appropriately.

Attempt to speak with the defendant’s counsel, Mr Nurudeen Sanusi after the court proved abortive as he claimed that he was not satisfied with the approaches of the complainant.

The defendants facing trial on 5 count charges including conspiracy to commit felony to wit:
Assault, Robbery and Threatening Violence which the prosecutor stated in the charge that it is an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Laws of Osun State 2002

The defendants include Mrs Fatimo Orelope (70),
Mrs Babalola Motuntayo (36) and Mr Sulaiman Ganiyu (47). Others are Mrs Kehinde Ojeyemi (40), Mr Taofeek Olutoye (40) and and Mr. Olutoye Wasiu Kayode (40).

Chief Magistrate A.O Oyeniyi adjourned ruling till June 16, 2023 and continuation of hearing.
