Cleric Urges Wealthy Nigerians To Assist Less-privileged

Christian cleric, state,Venerable Ojelade Williams, has charged wealthy individuals in the society to always examine their lives and make peace with God and humanity.

The cleric noted that Nigerian society, will be better off, if those who are well endowed with enormous resources can willingly invest in social welfare programmes for the betterment of the less endowed citizens.

Venerable Ojelade, who is the Archdeacon of Inisha archdeaconry and Vicar of St Peters Anglican Church , Inisha, Osun state, gave the charge while speaking during the installation ceremony of the Chairman / CEO of Glister Success Ltd, Engineer (Chief) Bamidele Babatunde as Otunba Mayegun of Inisha in Inisha, Odo-Otin local government, Osun state.

At the event well attended by notable Nigerians, Babatunde’s wife, Chief Mrs. Christiana Babatunde, was also honoured with the title of Yeye Mayegun at the event.

Speaking, Venerable Ojelade harped on the need for wealthy Nigerians to attach importance to giving back to society and reaching out to the needy, underprivileged and the vulnerable groups in their respective communities and the country as a whole.

He said: “Contributing to the well-being and improvement of their respective communities and touching lives positively would come with numerous advantages that include alleviating people’s suffering and giving young people who may have previously gotten relegated to the background and may have been pushed into things that may constitute ‘social problems’ , the needed encouragement to pursue their goals and ambitions in life while also helping to reduce the burden on government.

He however urged Nigerians to pray for continued peace and prosperity submitting that there is no alternative to peace.

Speaking while presiding over the installation ceremony, the Olunisha of Inishaland, Oba Joseph Oladunjoye Oyedele Fashikun ll , who commended Chief Bamidele Babatunde for his altruistic acts, had also noted that he considers him as his son, recalling that his late father was his classmate in 1948.

Oba Joseph Oladunjoye Oyedele, who became Inisha monarch in 1978, took a trip down memory lane and also disclosed his famillial ties with the new Mayegun.

President of Inisha Descendants Union, Pastor Bayo Dahunsi, noted that honouring Chief Bamidele with a chieftaincy title will definitely motivate the young people to emulate him.
