The leadership of the Taraba State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to “end all forms of killings that have characterised his eight years administration”.

The call, which was made on Tuesday via a statement by the association in Jalingo, the state capital, was in reaction to the unabated killings by suspected herdsmen and bandits in some parts of the state.

Apart from last Saturday’s killings in Ardo-Kola local government council by unknown gunmen, DAILY POST reports that over 10 persons were again killed in Kwesati village in Ussa council in the early hours of Monday.

Disturbed by the ongoing killing, the association, through its state chairman, Rev. (Dr.) Isaiah Magaji Jirapye, urged the president to put in place mechanisms that would halt the killings.

According to him, the “best legacy President Muhammadu Buhari’s led Federal Government will leave for the country is to end all forms of killings that have characterised his eight years administration.”

The association also called on President Buhari to give security agencies the political will needed to end the killings.

It also urged the state government to stop depending on federal might and find a lasting solution.

CAN, who could not fathom why the attacks were coming shortly after the 2023 general elections, urged both the President and the state government to put in place mechanisms that would discourage the killings in the state and the country at large.

“Such provocative attacks is uncalled for and unwarranted, considering the fact that peace is never an option at this critical time that people are preparing for farming activities,” said CAN.
