Traffic Offences: Osun Govt Reduces Fines For Motorcycle Riders

Osun State Government has approved the downward review of Road Traffic Fines attached to traffic offences committed by motorcycle riders.

This is contained in statement jointly signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Sesan Oyedele and the Special Adviser on Transportation, Hon. Yakubu Adejare and made available to newsmen in Osogbo.

According to the statement, some of the reduced fines include: Riding against traffic flow which used to attract a fine of #5,000 and has now been reduced to #3,000, while none usage of crash helmets has now been reduced to #1,000 from the previous fine of #3,000.

Other reduced fines include Assault/battery of law enforcement agents which attracted a fine of #20,000 but has now been reduced to #10,000 among other reduced fines.

According to the statement, the reduction in the traffic fines for the motorcycle riders became necessary because of the harsh economic realities facing every Nigerian.

The Commissioner and Special Adviser in the statement said despite the determination of the present administration to instil discipline and decency, the Governor still felt there should be a human face in governance and law enforcement.

The statement also urges officials of the Ministry of Transportation such as the OTRAM and VIO officials to be descent in their approach to motorists, motorcycle riders and other road users in the discharge of their job.

They stressed that the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke will not take any step that will cause hardship for any resident of the State, while urging motorcycle riders not abuse government’s good gesture but obey every traffic law.
