May Day : Makinde Promises More Jobs Creation Under Omituntun 2.0

–Says Administration Met Its Obligations To Oyo Workers

As workers across the federation marks this year’s Workers Day celebrations, Oyo state governor, ‘Seyi Makinde has assumed that more jobs will be created for unemployed persons during his second tenure in office fondly refered to as Omituntun 2.0 to address the rate of unemployment in the state just as he said his administration has met it’s obligations to it’s workers

Governor Makinde who expressed gratitude to the workforce stated this in his address at the occasion held at the Adamasingba stadium in Ibadan ,acknowledged the commitment and support of the state labour force which has translated to economic success under his administration.

At the colorful event which commemorated the international workers day i, Makinde said his first term under Omituntun 1.0 accelerated development was good assuring that his second term which will come into effect on May 30 would be better especially for workers in the state.

“Although, the unemployment rate in Oyo state is lower than the national level but we know it is a problem we must address.

“We must create more jobs and take a lot of our people into the employment pool. So, under Omituntun 2.0 we will embark on an aggressive global investment drive. Our message to the word is simple, come and invest in Oyo state.” Makinde said.

He highlighted some of the specific areas the state is looking forward to, for global investment drive to include agribusiness, solid minerals, renewable energy, and tourism assuring that the state is open for more serious business as necessary infrastructures needed for business friendly and enabling environment have been put in place to guarantee good return on investment in the state.

The umbrella bodies of labour unions in both public and private sectors; the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) in their separate addresses expressed gratitude to Governor Makinde for placing high premium on workers welfare and wellbeing in the state while promising sustained commitment and continuous support for the present administration.

The labour leaders; Comrade Kayode Martins, Oyo NLC state chairman, and his TUC counterpart, Comrade Bosun Olabiyi, who spoke on behalf of their respective unions, their sister unions and other affiliate bodies under them; highlighted some of the challenges of their members at work place.

They stressed that employers of labour must respect the terms of labour contract and stop subjecting workers to inhumane treatments. They maintained that labour force remain the engine room of any state, nation, or organization with ambition for success while appealing for improved welfare package for workers in Oyo state.
