Gunmen Kill Police Officers, Abduct Son-In-Law Of Popular Jigawa Contractor
Jigawa State Police Command on Monday confirmed the killings of two of its personnel in Taura Local Government Area while a son-in-law to a popular Jigawa Government contractor, Haruna Maifata was also abducted.
The incident occurred at Kwalam, one of the populous communities in Taura LGA, where the contractor lives.
The kidnappers abducted Ma’aru Abubakar, the son-in-law to the contractor.
The Police spokesperson in Jigawa, Lawan Adam, confirmed the incident to journalists, assuring efforts are being intensified by the police to effect the arrest of the fleeing suspects.
He identified the deceased officers as ASP Anas Usaini, a superintendent of police and Sunusi Alhassan, an inspector.
He said the officers were shot dead close to an improvised patrol vehicle which was set ablaze by the gunmen.
Residents said the gunmen invaded their prime target’s residence after attacking a security formation and went into the town unchallenged.
Residents said the latest incident occurred less than three months after, where one Kabiru Taura, a businessman, was also kidnapped and freed after, he reportedly paid over N20 million ransom.
Residents feared that the security situation may deteriorate in Jigawa state, a relatively peaceful state in the troubled Northwest region, if the needed attention is not put in place.
