Girls Abscond Country Because Of Circumcision
The rate at which we systematically jettison our religion and cultural beliefs will in no distant time thrown all our history, valued cultural beliefs into oblivion.
This is happening because we have totally embraced the Western civilization which is at variance with our cherished culture.
This is exactly what happened to two young girls that fled Nigeria to Germany through Denmark.
The young girls named Sarah Olayinka Obafemi 17 years and Esther Olamide Obafemi 13 years were born to Mr. Segun Obafemi from Ife in Osun State, South-Western region of the country and Mrs. Justina Obafemi from Kogi State, North-Central region of the country.
Mr. Segun Obafemi comes from a sleepy village of Okero, Osi in Ife South Local Government Area of Osun State.
Osi-Okero is about 50 minutes drive from Ife metropolis. The best way to get to the village is through commercial motorcycle otherwise known as Okada because the road is undulating and very slippery.
As tradition demands, the two young girls were to be circumcised because the belief is that any girl that is not circumcised will be promiscuous but because of the mass campaign against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), by Health Agencies worldwide, they were not circumcised.
Because of this, they were the talk of the town as they were called unprintable names.
Why they were not circumcised was because of the effects and trauma it will have on them and in the process, some girls lost their lives which made various Health Agencies globally preached its stoppage, yet, still being practised in many areas.
Because of their refusal to be circumcised, the village made life unbearable for then as they were threatening with voodoo by sending death threats to them every moment.
However, a good spirited person assisted them with visa to travel on 19th February, 2022 to Denmark and from Denmark to Germany.
What is worrisome is that, the mother would have relocated them back to Kogi her State of Origin, but the prevalence of insecurity, kidnapping, banditry and rituals killings rampaging in the Northern part of the country will not.
Sarah and Esther are the only two children the woman had and it is very important for her to do everything to save their lives.
