Ex-Minister Of Health, Prof Adewole Receives Distinguished Award From Japan

Professor Isaac Folorunso Adewole FAS was decorated in Abuja with the Order of Rising Star, Gold and Silver Star of Japan. This event coincided with the 62nd birthday of the Emperor of Japan, His Majesty, Emperor Nahurito.

Professor Adewole received the award alongside his wife, Dr. Olubukola Adesina-Adewole, Reader in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The decoration was done by the Japanese Ambassador to Nigeria on behalf of His Majesty by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, H.R. MATSUNAGA Kazuyoshi.

This award was the 2020 Spring Conferment, which was delayed on account of the COVID pandemic.  The award is in recognition of his performance as Minister of Health of Nigeria and for promoting a closer Japanese-Nigeria relationship.

Adewole, a former provost and Vice Chancellor of the premier University, University of Ibadan and the immediate minister of Health during the first term of President Muhammadu Buhari. Adewole started the initiative of the revitalization of Primary Healthcare Centres (PHC) in each political ward in the country and the actualization of the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund. Professor Isaac Adewole, a glorious and shinning light of Ijeshaland is from Ilesa East local government and a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, he’s also a worthy alumnus of U. I., a distinguished Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, member of the CoMUI MBBS graduating class of 1978.
