8 Arrested Over Killing Of APC Chieftain In Osun
Osun state police command Sunday announced the arrest of eight suspects in connection with the killing of a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Alli Kazeem, popularly called Kekere Kazuma.
Command’s spokesman, Yemisi Opalola, in a release, confirmed that the chairman of the National Union of Road Workers (NURTW), Kazeem, was whisked away by his assailants around 9:50pm Saturday.
Kasuma, was until his death, the NURTW branch chairman in Apomu, headquarters of Isokan local government area of the state.
She said: “DPO Apomu Division reported that the transport worker was whisked away by an unknown person. The area commander, Ikire, promptly mobilised a combined team of vigilante and police detectives to the scene where it was discovered that the victim left the motor park at Apomu and was traced to Oke-Afa area, from where he was forcefully stopped, drawn out from his Toyota Corolla Ash colour with registration number APM 203 AA, matcheted and taken away by the assailants.
“It was further gathered that the assailants came with an unregistered black Toyota Corolla Car.
“While tactical team, local hunters and natives have been mobilised to comb the surrounding bush to rescue the victim, presently, eight suspects have been arrested in connection to the case.”
APC kicks, insists on justice
Reacting to Kazuma’s assassination, the state’s APC Chairman, Prince Gboyega Famodun, called on security agencies to fish out those killing people in the state.
Famodun in a statement Sunday by his media adviser, Kola Olabisi, said the killing of members of APC was becoming unbearable.
Findings show that the deceased had been a die-hard supporter of APC who had allegedly deprived other political parties of avenues to use vehicles in his garage.
It was gathered that his killers allegedly pursued him on Saturday to where he was shot dead.
“He was killed around 9pm between Oke-Alfa and Timberland area. He was killed at the stream in the area. He was pursued to the spot where he was killed. Two vehicles followed him to the point where his car was waylaid and killed,” multiple sources stated.
The union’s secretary in the local government, Tajudeen Bello, confirmed that the deceased was killed by some gunmen.
He said: “Alhaji Kazeem played a major role during the 2022 Osun state governorship election. As a chairman of NURTW, he directed all his members to vote for APC and threatened that anybody who voted for PDP will be dealt with as long as he is the chairman. He was reported at the palace and he stood by his words,” Bello explained.
And even at that, Famodun said the killing was wicked, dastardly, callous and highly condemnable.
