OAU Appoints New Vice Chancellor

Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, has appointed Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire as the new Vice Chancellor of the institution to succeed the incumbent VC, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede.

Adebayo Simeon Bamire, a Professor of Agricultural Economy from the Faculty of Agriculture, Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife,emerged the new VC after series of screenings and examinations.

According to the Chairman, Council of the University, Owelle Oscar Udoji while briefing the press on Thursday in Ile-Ife disclosed that the new VC will resume office by June 7,2022.

Adding that the selection processes for the new VC, had started over three months ago ,while twenty applicants showed interest for the position.

In the course of the exercise,sixteen applicants, who met the outlined criteria were shortlisted to appear before the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board,while fifteen of them were present in person and one,on his request, online.

After thorough screening and examination of the Curriculum Vitaes and interaction with every applicant,three scored the highest marks inline with the outlined prerequisite. The three highest-scoring candidates were presented to the Council for further consideration as provided by the law. He added.

Saying, the Federal Character Commission has applauded the Joint Selection Board for being free, fair and transparent in carrying out the entire exercise in Compliance with the provisions of the Federal Character Commission Act.

The Chairman of the council, Owelle Oscar Udoji said having rigorously reviewed the report submitted by Joint Selection Board,in accordance with the University provisions act (as amended),Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, emerged the new Vice-Chancellor of the University

On his final note, he said the decision of the Council would be communicated to His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari through the Hon. Minister of Education for final approval.
