Policemen Reportedly Flee Checkpoint As Gunmen Kill Officer, Raze Patrol Vehicle In Enugu
Hoodlums have reportedly killed a police officer and set ablaze a patrol vehicle at two checkpoints at Nsukka town in the Nsukka local government area of Enugu State.
A source said the attack occurred early on Friday morning.
According to the source, the hoodlums who were in an SUV first killed a police officer at a checkpoint at Umeano junction before moving to another checkpoint at Ibeagwa Ani to burn a patrol van.
It was gathered that the policemen at Ibeagwa Ani fled when they could no longer repel the firepower of the hoodlums.
The assailants took away the gun of the slain policeman, the source said
It was reported that two policemen were killed in Enugu-Ezike barely two weeks ago which led the state government to declare a curfew in Igbo-Eze South and Igbo-Eze North a few days ago.
However, efforts to get the reaction of the state police command were unsuccessful as its spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe did not answer phone calls
