Atiba University Students Holds Health Campaign On HIV/AIDS In Oyo

The students of Atiba University Oyo, Nigeria Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Public Health storm host community with a massive campaign on malaria, HIV/AIDS prevention and medical check-up on Thursday.

In his welcome address, the founder of the school, Dr. James Adesokan Ojebode who expressed satisfaction, charged the students to know what health entails and their roles to the community.

Also, the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the school, Prof. Olawale Okeniyi advised the students to remain determined and focused in their lines of duty.

During the exercise, the Director of Consultancy Unit, Atiba University, Prof. Babalola maintained that almost forty years ago when the first case of HIV was reported, marked the beginning of a devastating global pandemic.

According to him, the disease has killed 39 million people and caused untold pain, stigma and discrimination among the people.

The students of Atiba University, moved round Oyo town from one street to the other, offering services to the populace.

The people of the community were also invited to the school premises for the HIV test, and advice was given to them on the need to abstain from multiple sex partners and that people should know their HIV status.

The coordinator of the programme, Mr Adeleke Morenikeji said both viruses always target the weak in our society, preying on vulnerable groups and amplifying inequalities.

He also said that global solidarity and innovation were key to overcoming the worst of the HIV pandemic.

Similarly, collaboration and science offer the best path out of the current crisis.
And both have a profound impact on mental health around the world.
